SUMMARY:
The legal (voluntary) relinquishment of newborns for adoption constitutes an important resource by guaranteeing women the right not to mother and ensuring children legal protection and adequate conditions of care. Although provided for by law, this practice still faces challenges related to a lack of knowledge about legal procedures and limited integration among the services involved. In this context, it becomes necessary to train the teams who work directly in the care of women who express the desire to carry out legal relinquishment. This study aimed to construct and validate the content of an educational module on the legal relinquishment of children for adoption, intended for residents and preceptors in the fields of Social Work and Psychology at Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco. This is a methodological study developed in three stages. The first stage consisted of a literature review addressing ethical, legal, and care-related aspects of the process. Based on this synthesis, the educational module was developed to guide professional practice. In the second stage, the module underwent content validation by expert judges, using the Content Validity Index (CVI), with 0.8 adopted as the minimum adequacy threshold. Ten judges participated in the validation, with a predominance of social workers, corresponding to five participants (50.0%). A psychologist (10.0%), a higher education faculty member (10.0%), a technical support center coordinator (10.0%), a Juvenile Court judge (10.0%), and a public prosecutor (10.0%) also contributed, providing diversity of perspectives and strengthening the interdisciplinary nature of the evaluation process. The results indicated that all module units obtained a Content Validity Index equal to or greater than the established minimum, resulting in an overall index of 0.9, demonstrating clarity, relevance, and internal consistency of the content. Although the level of agreement was sufficient and no second validation round was necessary, some judges suggested improvements to the manual, including terminological adjustments, clarification of the concept of "early infancy," a clear distinction between regular and irregular adoption, and further guidance on the rights related to maternal confidentiality and the child's access to biological ancestry. The manual was also strengthened regarding intersectoral coordination and mental health support during the pre- and postnatal periods, ensuring comprehensive care for the woman. It is concluded that the module is validated in terms of content and is appropriate to support professional training. The final stage of this study will consist of the practical evaluation of the module by residents and professionals at Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco in order to verify its applicability in daily care and its potential to promote an ethical, welcoming, and humanized approach in the context of the legal relinquishment of newborns.
