Role play as an educational strategy for teaching pharmaceutical counseling on medications used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis at a teaching hospital
Multiple sclerosis; Pharmaceutical care; Pharmacists
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated, chronic, progressive, inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease that affects the gray and white matter of the Central Nervous System (CNS). It is defined by axon degeneration and multifocal demyelination and normally begins in adulthood, between the ages of 20 and 40, and affects more women than men. The actions of a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of MS can have an assertive impact on the general health context, helping the patient to face the difficulties arising from the illness in a more positive way. Clinical pharmacists who provide preceptorships to residency students and graduate students during clinical rotations can foster awareness and interest in performing clinical pharmacy roles with patients with MS through their practice, experience, and guidance. Therefore, there is a need to build an educational strategy to train the skills of these undergraduate and postgraduate students in caring for this patient. The objective is to develop an educational teaching strategy for undergraduate and postgraduate students at a teaching hospital on pharmaceutical guidance for medications used in multiple sclerosis. This is an applied research study with a quantitative approach comprised of three stages: identification of previous skills, development and application of the educational strategy on medications used in multiple sclerosis and identification of skills after the intervention and assessment of student satisfaction with the intervention educational. The research will follow all ethical aspects. Data will be collected after the opinion of the Research Ethics Committee (CAAE 81437724.8.0000.5292 e número do Parecer 6.988.542/2024).It is expected that the student will benefit from the development of this new product, which will be a teaching methodology based on a topic not covered during graduation, having the opportunity to acquire new knowledge about pharmaceutical guidance for patients with MS, practice and repair any gaps of knowledge.
