Introduction: Humanized labor, delivery, and birth are the most appropriate means of providing adequate care to the parturient and newborn, given that such humanization focuses on a more woman-centered approach. The presence of qualified nursing professionals who are committed to the process of naturalization to labor and use good practices as a work tool is essential. Preceptorship is considered a necessary teaching activity that favors a process of construction of knowledge that is more significant for human and professional training. To this end, the training practice in health requires the preceptor to play the role of mediator in the in-service training process, without failing to include pedagogical qualification. Objectives: The objective of this study was to implement a preceptorship course in good practices in labor, delivery, and birth care in a public maternity hospital in Rio Grande do Norte. Methods: This was a descriptive, exploratory study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, developed based on the Convergent Care Research framework. The study was conducted at the Monsenhor Antônio Barros Hospital, located in São José de Mipibu, Rio Grande do Norte. The population consisted of maternity nurses and the sample was selected in a non-probabilistic and intentional manner. Data collection was structured in four stages: application of a questionnaire to professionals before training; application of an online preceptorship course on good practices in labor assistance; application of practical classes in the obstetric center of the hospital institution; and evaluation of the training by professionals. Results: Data from the first phase of collection were analyzed using the technique proposed by Trentini and Paim (2014). For the second phase, data from the Likert scale were analyzed by calculating the average ranking. This study complied with the provisions of Resolution 466/2012. Discussion: Nurses experienced a process of improving their skills, developing skills in good practices in labor, delivery and birth, solving the difficulties identified in the exercise of preceptorship, care practice and management of labor, favoring the practice as preceptors and also the care of parturients.
