SUMMARY:

Introduction: One of the main focuses of treatment for dysphagia consists of modifying the consistency of solid and liquid foods. Individuals with dysphagia may encounter challenges in making decisions (health literacy) and consuming food with an appropriate consistency for their specific level of dysphagia when they are at home and not under the supervision of healthcare professionals. ICTs are tools that contribute to the enhancement and support of the health decision-making process. This protocol aims to compare the use of different ICTs to improve the understanding of standardized food and drink consistency levels. Methods and analysis: An open randomized clinical trial with 90 participants with mild and moderate dysphagia, with or without ALS, was randomly allocated into three groups: control, intervention A, and intervention B. The study interventions will occur at times T0, T1, T2, and T3, with a one-month interval between them. At the beginning of each period, all participants will be evaluated regarding their knowledge and identification of dietary consistency. The primary outcome is the impact of using different ICTs on understanding the levels of consistency of foods and drinks will be evaluated. Ethics and dissemination: The Ethics and Research in Human Beings Committee reviewed and approved the research protocol (5.688.193). Written consent to participate will be obtained from all participants. The results will be only be disclosed in scientific publications without the possibility of identifying the participants. Trials registration: Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials REBEC code: RBR-4d8jr7s.
