Given the exponential increase in the number of older people, there is growing global and public health concern about violence against this population. Thus, understanding this issue, which is considered a global public health problem due to its increasing prevalence and recurrence, is crucial for the development of preventive measures. The aim of this study was to determine the association between sociodemographic and health aspects and the risk of elder abuse and violence in the community. This is an observational, cross-sectional, quantitative study conducted with 200 elderly individuals supported by Primary Health Care in the municipality of Foz do Iguacu, Parana, from April to July 2022. For data collection, the following instruments were used: sociodemographic and health characterization, functionality (IADL), frailty (EFE), depression (GDS-15), and the Hwalek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Screening Test (H-S/EAST) to assess the risk of violence. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Western Parana under Opinion No. 4.662.293/2021, and for data collection, the participants signed a written Informed Consent Form (ICF). The results of this study, although they do not confirm the relevance of this phenomenon, indicate a trend in the profile of sociodemographic and health aspects associated with the risk of abuse and violence among the participants. The main findings showed that, among the 60-70 age group, those at no risk of violence against the elderly are mostly literate, independent, without depression, and without frailty. For the over 70 age group, the vast majority are literate, dependent, without depression, and without frailty. Violence against the elderly is a public health problem, and health managers need to collaborate to implement new public policy strategies aimed at promoting and protecting this population.
