SUMMARY:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, TikTok became a tool for fun and distraction amid the concerning global scenario. People of different nationalities, ages, and ethnicities became users of the app, among them Indigenous individuals from Brazil. In this context, the present chapter aims to present the profile of Indigenous women digital influencers — as well as to understand the cultural context surrounding them — highlighting their role in deconstructing stereotypes and promoting cultural visibility. To this end, the ideas of historian Frank Ankersmit (2012) on representation will be employed, considering the concept not as a mirror of reality, but as a substitution based on individual experiences. This perspective makes debates on representation more complex and dynamic, moving beyond the simplistic duality between subject and represented object, while also considering external influences. For the construction of a critical decolonial analysis with a racial perspective, the ideas of Aníbal Quijano (2000) and Walter Mignolo (2007) were used, in addition to Djamila Ribeiro (2017), Franz Fanon (2008), Ailton Krenak (2019), and Lélia Gonzalez (2019). The analysis of the profiles allowed for a better understanding of the reception and popularity of these influencers, showing that these women provoke debates about the reality of Indigenous peoples in Brazil. However, part of the audience still reflects from crystallized conceptions about Indigenous populations, viewing them as subjects tied to a fixed and immutable past. This perspective compromises communication with the influencers, since the message they convey, although intentional, depends on the interpretive disposition of the receiver. Thus, deconstruction is only possible when there is openness to dialogue and to the re-signification of hegemonic narratives.
