SUMMARY:

This thesis aims to analyze the blues scene in Fortaleza, between 2000 and 2008. The blues, after consolidating itself as a musical production in Brazil in the late 1980s, also in the same period, began to develop in Fortaleza, configuring its presence and performance. This development led to the emergence of a blues scene (as will be shown in the Introduction) in Fortaleza. Subsequently, throughout the 1990s, the scene was consolidated and, from the beginning of the 2000s, it was reconfigured mainly with the entry of new members and the emergence of new opportunities for the blues, readjusting the field of activity of the scene in Fortaleza. The year 2000, as can be seen, referred to the transition between two periods of the blues scene: the first phase (characterized by the development/consolidation of the scene) and the second (representing its growth). The year 2008 was marked by the creation of the Casa do Blues association (entity that emerged in Fortaleza because of the blues scene). Delimiting the interval between 2000 and 2008, I intend to investigate the actions of the members of this scene to identify and problematize their transformations. As sources, I highlight the testimonies of these subjects (specifically those who joined from the 2000s), the hemerographic materials and the cartography that contributed to guiding the blues scene in Fortaleza and beyond. As theoretical references, in addition to the concept of scene, discussions on the categories space/place as well as the notions of (re)territorialization and (multi)territorialities are included. Finally, also in theoretical-methodological terms, I refer to the issue of cyberspace as a means of investigating new forms of spatialization of the blues scene.
