SUMMARY:

In the 21st century, studies related to geodiversity have gained momentum in academia, justified by the various forms of misuse of abiotic resources. Parallel to this scientific advance, geoconservation has also gained ground, with various studies discussing issues related to the misuse and degradation of geodiversity. Furthermore, its conservation is important due to the threats it faces and, above all, the services it provides. Geodiversity services are the benefits that the abiotic environment provides to society, so the conservation of geodiversity will be reflected in the provision of abiotic ecosystem services. Northeastern Brazil is very geodiverse, with various mountain ranges, massifs, and inselbergs, which are often sources of various abiotic benefits. This is no different in the state of Ceará, for example, the Baturité Massif, which has a variety of soils, climate types, geology, and diverse geomorphology. Furthermore, it is considered an exceptional landscape, covering several municipalities. In this sense, this study aims to identify the ecosystem services provided by geodiversity in the Baturité Massif and its surrounding area, in addition to discussing, comparing, describing, and highlighting the degree of relevance of the homogeneous units of geodiversity. These units are groups that condition the provision of abiotic ecosystem services, in which the abiotic characteristics of the units are similar. The method to be used in the research is the hypothetical-deductive method, developed by Sir Karl Raymund Popper, based on the hypothesis that the homogeneous geodiversity unit located further to the windward side and at a higher altitude provides more geodiversity services. The research will be carried out in four stages, initially with a bibliographic and bibliometric survey, in addition to the cartographic production of the study area. Subsequently, fieldwork will be carried out, followed by the preparation of tables to compare the results obtained. Finally, cartographic products will be developed to highlight the degree of relevance of the services provided in the study area from each homogeneous unit of geodiversity. The methodology used covers four types of services: regulation, cultural and knowledge provision, and support, all of which are broken down into various benefits.
