SUMMARY:
Neo-extractivism is a model of economic development that prioritizes production at the expense of primary-producing spaces, subjecting them to a formation of regional space characterized by a production circuit that is poorly diversified and geared towards meeting external demands. This mineral process is historically linked to the eastern Paraibano Seridó. Thus, the creation of circulation networks connecting the region to consumer markets resulted in export corridors. As a result, mining companies have economically expropriated the territory, resulting in an enclave economy that generates low financial returns, environmental impacts and territorial conflicts, especially in mining towns such as Frei Martinho-PB. In view of this, the research aims to investigate the productive spatial circuits of mining in the Eastern Seridó of Paraiba, analyzing its territorial repercussions in the formation of an enclave economy. To this end, methodological procedures were developed to serve as
tools for analyzing the reality of the study in question, including bibliographical research based on the main key authors; use of resources such as online data platforms and economic portals. At the same time, quantitative data will be collected, mainly looking at socio-economic information by collecting secondary data from the IBGE and RAIS, which will be discussed using tables and graphs. Field research will also be carried out with a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews, questionnaires and focus groups in the municipality of Frei Martinho-PB. In this context, understanding the role of mining, especially in areas where its predatory model is predominant, makes it possible to highlight the inequalities and adverse effects that the mining sector has on municipalities in the interior of Paraíba. Analyzing these impacts is fundamental to exposing
territorial contradictions and contributing to class awareness so that demands can be made for more effective public policies and inspections aimed at aligning mining activity with the interests of local communities.
