SUMMARY:

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a routine part of university life, but its effects on physical and mental health remain poorly understood, particularly regarding Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and bruxism, multifactorial conditions strongly related to psychosocial factors such as anxiety, sleep quality, and pain catastrophizing. Objective: to investigate the association between the pattern of use of generative AI tools and the presence of bruxism, TMD, and psychosocial symptoms among undergraduate Dentistry students at Brazilian higher-education institutions, through a longitudinal pilot study. Methods: this is an observational, analytical, nationwide study, with data collected entirely online and followed up at three time points (T0, T1, and T2, corresponding to baseline, 1 month, and 3 months). Eighty Dentistry students who use generative AI, selected by convenience sampling, will be included. Participants will complete an original instrument developed specifically for this study (Questionnaire on Exposure to and Impact of Generative AI Use — QEIAGen) as well as validated scales: STAB (bruxism and TMD), PSQI-BR (sleep quality), GAD-7 (anxiety), and PCS (pain catastrophizing). Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, bivariate association tests, and longitudinal mixed models (GLMM/GEE), with mediation tests for anxiety and catastrophizing. Expected results: to determine the feasibility of the digital follow-up protocol, the clarity of the QEIAGen instrument, and to obtain preliminary data on the association between generative AI use and orofacial and psychosocial outcomes, supporting future prevention and care strategies aimed at the dental academic community
