Introduction: Malocclusions are a global health concern and constitute the third most prevalent oral health problem worldwide. For the treatment of Class II malocclusion, distalization of the maxillary dentition or tooth extraction are commonly considered therapeutic options. Objective: To evaluate the amount of available space in the maxillary tuberosity region distal to the permanent maxillary third and second molars using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: The eligibility criteria include high-quality CBCT scans of the maxilla or full face from patients of both sexes, aged over 18 years, with a complete permanent dentition. CBCT scans obtained from the database of a private oral and maxillofacial radiology clinic will be analyzed. Measurements of the available space within the maxillary tuberosity will be performed distal to the permanent maxillary third and second molars on both the right and left sides. Measurements will be obtained in the anteroposterior direction on sagittal sections and in the transverse direction on axial sections at levels of 2, 3, and 4 mm above the alveolar bone crest. Expected Results: It is expected that a mean value representing the amount of space available for distalization in the maxillary tuberosity region will be established for patients with and without maxillary third molars.
