Effect of Silver Diamine Fluoride on Hypersensitivity Control in Hypomineralised Molars: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Introduction: Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a qualitative defect of dental enamel that affects the first permanent molars and may or may not affect the incisors and is often being associated with severe hypersensitivity. So far, there is no defined protocol for managing pain in patients with affected molars. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) 38% has demonstrated benefits in treating dentin sensitivity in adults, suggesting its effectiveness in children as well, especially those with hypomineralized molars. Objective: Longitudinally evaluate the clinical performance of SDF in managing hypersensitivity in patients with MIH compared with 5% sodium fluoride varnish. Material and Methods: Patients with MIH and hypersensitivity will be randomly assigned to two treatment groups (5% NaF Fluoride Varnish and Silver Diamine Fluoride 38% cariostatic agent). Hypersensitivity will be assessed using the Schiff Score Air Sensitivity Scale and Visual Analog Scale before, immediately after treatment, and after 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 12 weeks. ANOVA will be used for comparison between groups, and comparison between times within the same group will be made using repeated measures ANOVA.
