KEY WORDS:

Active learning; Production Engineering; Economics.

PAGES: 45
BIG AREA: Engenharias
AREA: Engenharia de Produção
SUMMARY:

Technological, social, and economic transformations that characterize the current scenario have intensified debates regarding the need for pedagogical innovation in higher education. In the field of Production Engineering, these demands become even more evident, as the area requires professionals capable of integrating technical knowledge, systemic thinking, critical reasoning, and the ability to solve complex problems. In this context, active learning methodologies emerge as pedagogical strategies aligned with contemporary educational demands and with the National Curriculum Guidelines for Engineering programs. Despite the growing body of literature on active learning methodologies, there is still a limited number of studies that analyze, in an articulated manner, their presence in scientific production, curricular documents, and recorded pedagogical practices in specific Production Engineering courses, such as Economics. Given this context, this study aims to analyze how active learning methodologies are discussed in the specialized literature and to identify their presence, orientation, and potential contributions in the syllabi of Economics courses within Production Engineering programs in Brazil, as well as in the records of activities of the Economics course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. A qualitative, descriptive, and documentary approach is adopted, grounded in the analysis of syllabi from public higher education institutions, pedagogical records of the analyzed course, and national and international literature. Data collection involved documentary research and a systematic bibliographic review, using descriptors related to active learning, engineering education, and Production Engineering. The data were analyzed through content analysis, according to Bardin (2016), allowing the identification of categories associated with active learning methodologies and with the competencies established by the National Curriculum Guidelines for Engineering. The study seeks to contribute to the understanding of the alignment between curricular documents, recorded pedagogical practices, and current educational guidelines, offering support for reflections on the teaching of Economics in Production Engineering and on the potential of active learning methodologies in other courses for the critical, analytical, and integrated education of production engineers.
