On the reproductive biology of bats have been intensified in Brazil, for many species and in several places of the country the information are still scarce, as is the case of Artibeus planirostris. Thus, this study aimed to understand the reproductive parameters of this species from the morphological and morphometric analysis of the epididymis. Sixteen adult animals were collected during the dry (n = 08) and rainy seasons (n = 08) of 2014. The captures were held at dusk in the central campus of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Natal-RN), using mist-nets. Euthanasia was performed by transcardiac perfusion and then the epididymis were collected and histologically processed for embedding in historesin and analyzed under light microscopy. Morphometric analyzes of the epididymal components were made from micrographs of the histological blades. The animals had a body weight of 40.19±2.54g and 42.21±3.06g, and epididymal weight of 0.02±0.01g and 0.02±0.00g, respectively in the dry and rainy seasons. The preliminary morphological evaluation of the epididymis of 6 specimens collected in the dry season showed that the organ was divided into 4 main areas: initial segment, head, body and tail. The parenchyma was composed predominantly by epididymal tubules, supported by intertubular connective tissue. The tubules were composed of cylindrical pseudostratified epithelium with stereocilia, supported on a basement membrane, and lumen. The epithelium was composed by the cells: major, narrow, apical, basal, halo and clear. The first and the last ones presented respectively a higher and a lower distribution in all regions of the epididymis. The epithelium represented the largest percentage of the head (45.98±4.54%) and body of epididymis (44.96±2.66%), while in the tail its percentage was similar to the lumen with spermatozoa (27.61±7.03% and 28.09±6.37%, respectively). From the initial segment to the tail it was observed a gradual increase in the percentage of lumen with spermatozoa, diameter of the tubules and peritubular muscle fibers, as well a decrease in height of the epithelium. It can be concluded that the epididymis of A. planirostris was similar to that described for other mammals, with a morphological pattern directly related to the capacity of sperm storage, carried out to this organ. The large amount of spermatozoa in the lumen showed intense epididymal activity during the summer in northeastern Brazil.
