We currently live in the information society, surrounded by facilitators, where research and reading boils down to quick searches on social media. Understanding, writing and interacting becomes increasingly difficult. This research investigates the stimulus provided to students through a didactic sequence, working with the genre literary memories, from a pedagogical intervention in order to encourage and motivate students of the 9th grade of Elementary School to enjoy the reading of literary texts and comment on them, and thus, verify how the genre literary memories can contribute to the writing of narrative texts. It also seeks to awaken the awareness of young people to the importance of the elderly in society, since, sometimes, they are considered as a burden for their families, when, in fact, they are inexhaustible sources of knowledge and wisdom. Therefore, the objective is to perceive how the implications of the use of the literary memories genre is essential for the good performance of these students in reading and writing practices in Portuguese Language classes. The work was based on theoretical references directed to reading and writing, specifically on the genre of literary memories, as it is conducive to work with textual production in the written and oral modalities of the language, where one can see examples of successful results in the Portuguese Language Olympiads, a national event held by the Ministry of Education. The studies of Bakhtin (2011), Soares (2004), Antunes (2003), Koch (2006, 2012), Moura (2009), Geraldi (2004), Cosson (2014), Scheenewly (2004), Bosi (1994), Neri (2001), Cascudo (2001), Eliot (989) and Thiollent (2009) were also used as reference. In the research methodology, action research was used, where researchers and participants are involved in a cooperative way. The data approach is qualitative in nature because it prioritizes the description of actions in a process that develops in the natural environment where the interventions occur. Data were generated from the application of questionnaires, interviews with the elderly and field notes, as well as a collection of texts. After carrying out the proposed activities, it can be concluded that there was a significant advance in the performance of the students with regard to the level of writing.
