ABSTRACT The reality that is experienced in relation to the development of daily writing in schools is something that worries teachers a lot and causes many concerns. This finding gave rise to the present work, which seeks to investigate the discourse genre opinion article as a motivating and effective instrument for the development of writing competence in 9th grade students supported by the PCN and BNCC that demonstrate, methodologically, the viability and the importance of the focused genre and the argumentative nuances used naturally by the language user. To be considered literate today, the subject needs to be able to meet the demands of increasingly diverse and sophisticated reading and writing. From this understanding, it is clear that the students, for the most part, are not prepared as they should to deal with the diversity of this literate culture, due to the evident difficulty presented by them in relation to the reading, interpretation and textual production of the most diverse genders. In this context, the present work sought to engage our objectives based on the studies of the genre conception of Mikhail Bakhtin’s discourse and the writings of the Circle (BAKHTIN/VOLOSCHINOV,1999 [1929], 2010, 2011, [1920/1924/1929/1975/1979]). In addition, we seek contributions from scholars in the field of Applied Linguistics (ANTUNES, 2006; BRÄKLING, 2000; KOCH AND ELIAS, 2010); the sphere of argumentation (FIORIN, 2015, 2018); in the area of literacy studies (KLEIMAN, 2000) and the Gender Didactic Sequence (DOLZ, NOVERRAZ, SCHNEUWLY, 2004). From this theoretical perspective, we problematize how we can act, as Portuguese language teachers, to contribute and minimize the difficulties of textual production through working with the discourse genre opinion article and which strategies can contribute to improve the writing and reading competence of these students, preparing them to be reflective and critical subjects of the reality that surrounds them. In the search for answers to this problem, the general objective of this study is the development of modules to guide writing and rewriting of textual productions using the opinion article genre as an instrument. This work discusses and defends writing as a process, presents the argumentation as the basic axis of the opinion article, also pointing out the strategies for appropriating the composition of that genre, also, because it understands that the opinion article genre needs to participate in the student's discursive domain so that he is able to deal with school and extra-school language situations that require a position on a particular controversial topic. Through the proposal outlined here, we intend to work on the discourse genre opinion article based on the development of a didactic sequence to be applied in the 9th grade of Elementary School II, planned as an intervention proposal, of a qualitative nature and of the research-action type adopted by (THIOLLENT, 1998; BORTONNI RICARDO, 2008; ELLIOT, 1997, since the practice followed by reflection is the privileged investigative way in investigations of this nature, allowing participants conditions to inquire about their own practice in a critical and reflective way.
