RESUMO:

We live in the so-called information society, surrounded by facilitators with regard to study in general, research and reading on various subjects boils down to the rapid search through social media. In view of the above, understanding, writing and interacting, it becomes increasingly difficult, so this work tries to show that literature also exerts a social function, since it provides the stimulus to the reader; presents the development of pedagogical intervention established in order to encourage and motivate the students of the 9th grade of elementary school, to appreciate the reading of literary texts and to discuss them, in addition, to awaken to the importance of the elderly in society, since in some moments are seen as obsolete objects, when in fact they are inexhaustible sources of knowledge and wisdom. Aiming to understand the implications of the use of the genre literary memories for the improvement of the performance of these students in reading and writing practices in Portuguese language classes. For this, we base ourselves on theoretical references aimed at reading and writing, specifically on the genre of literary memories, because it is conducive to working with textual production in the written and oral modalities of the language, according to which we can cite successful results at the Olympiads of Portuguese language, a national event, carried out by the Ministry of Education. In addition, the contributions of Bakhtin (2011), among others, in what refers to the theory of the genres as the postulates of literacies (SOARES, 2004; ANTUNES, 2003; KOCH 2006, 2012; MOURA 2009; GERALDI, 2004; COSSON, 2014), of the use of didactic sequence in the teaching of mother tongue (SCHEENEWLY 2004). In methodological terms it is an action research, a process in which researchers and participants are involved in a cooperative way. (THIOLLENT, 2009). The data approach is qualitative in nature, since in addition to prioritizing the description of actions, we perform in the natural environment where the interventions take place. The data were generated in the year 2018, from the application of questionnaires, interviews and field notes as well as the compilation of texts, based on the questioning of the elderly. With regard to the social contribution of the elderly in society, the present study had as reference the thinking of BOSI, 1994;  NERI, 2001; CASCUDO, 2001; T.S. ELIOT, 1989.
