Although they are immersed in a literate universe, the importance given to reading by our students falls far short of social demands. This corroborates the results of the latest national assessments, such as Prova Brasil. The students decode graphic signs in an artificial manner, limiting themselves only to understanding the meanings of textual superficiality, oblivious to the most intrinsic statements, not explicit in the materiality of the text. In this context, We chose as questions of discussion: a) In what way, the work with Genre Song, with a more suggestive language, is a sufficient resource to extend the reading competence? B) Is it possible, through this genre, to seek implicit in the tessitura and enunciative scene, to arouse the desire for reading other genres? It's like a guiding objective to verify how the song genre contributes to the formation of a proficient and critical reader through activities of reading and understanding the various languages present in this genre. As it is not possible to measure quantitatively the product of the intervention of this research, the reading competence, we will follow a qualitative approach, in the area of action research, with an ethnographic bias, and following the methodological course of the Didactic Sequence. From this foundation, an analysis of the following songs was made: To my heroes - Julinho Marassi, Joy, joy - Caetano Veloso, Not to mention that I did not mention the flowers - Geraldo Vandré, Coca Cola Generation - Renato Russo, Brazil - Cazuza e I am middle class - Max Gonzaga, addressing the context of production, thematic content, compositional construction and linguistic-enunciative marks. Thus, it is sought here to include the ninth grade students of a state school in the city of Caicó, in the active use of reading in a literate world, since the song genre can arouse the pleasure by reading and providing diverse experiences, by adding components of analyzes already tasted by them socially and by having almost unanimous acceptability among young people, as well as being loaded with dreams, denunciations, social critiques, feelings, offering students the opportunity to form opinions and reflect on the social conflicts of a time.
