RESUMO:

The bicycle with mustaches, a novel by Angolan writer Ndalu de Almeida, better known as Ondjaki, tells the story of the city of Luanda through the childhood memories of the street children. This story serves as a background for the basic sequence - developed according to Cosson's (2014) conceptions - carried out with the students of the 7th year of a school in the municipal public school of Serra Caiada / RN. The objective of this work is to investigate how Portuguese-speaking African literature can contribute to the implementation of Law 10.639 / 2003, a law that obliges the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African history and culture in all educational establishments. The problem was chosen based on the fact that although more than a decade has passed since its promulgation, there are few educational institutions where this law is actually implemented. As a theoretical reference, we use the concepts of Cavalleiro (2001), Munanga (2005 and 2012) and Praxedes (2014), authors that discuss, among other things, the importance of education for ethnic-racial relations and the implementation of Law 10.639 / 2003, in order to discuss this important issue for teachers and students and to cooperate with the reflections in the classroom, minimizing the effects of racism and prejudice in school.
