The association of dental materials with anti-biofilm plant extracts is a reality. However, there are some factors that may make it difficult to associate plant extracts with specific dental materials, such as the color of the extract, biocompatibility and not impairing the mechanical properties of the materials. The development of this scope review is justified by the need to compile a broad literature database in order to be able to suggest ways for new laboratory and clinical studies with the most promising extracts. The objective is to map the minimum inhibitory concentration of plant extracts with antimicrobial power against Streptococcus mutans and to identify the most promising extracts to be associated with dental materials. This review will be registered in the Open Science Framework. Specific search strategies were developed and implemented using the following electronic databases: PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Scopus, Medline and Scielo, which were limited from 2013 to 2023. Rayyan was used for the selection of eligible studies. A total of 243 studies were included in this scoping review.
