SUMMARY:

Introduction: The search for composites resin with antimicrobial potential has been constant in Dentistry, since the diagnosis of caries lesions adjacent to these materials is one of the main causes of unsuccessful restorative treatment. Objective: To evaluate whether the biomodification of Opus Bulk Fill Flow APS™ composite resin with different concentrations of Braúna leaf extract (EFB) affects its degree of conversion (GC) as well as its depth of cure (PP). Methods: The EFB by drying the leaves (40±1 °C) and percolation of its powder. The Opus Bulk Fill Flow APS™ composite will be mixed to the EFB concentrations (0 mg/g [Control], 1 mg/g, 3 mg/g, 6 mg/g and 9 mg/g). Cylindrical samples (5 mm diameter x 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm thickness) will be made, photoactivated for 20 s, polished and stored at 37º C for 24 h. To determine the GC of monomers in polymers, the prepared specimens and the non-polymerized samples will be submitted to micro-Raman spectroscopy. PP will be measured using the bottom/top ratio of the GC in each of the twenty study groups. Data will be submitted to three-way and two-way ANOVA for GC and PP, respectively, followed by Tukey's multiple comparison test (p <0.05) for parametric data. For non-parametric data, the Kruskal Wallis test will be used using the GraphPad Prism 7 software.
