SUMMARY:
The hippo pathway is a highly conserved signal transduction pathway that is implicated in cell/tissue development, homeostasis and regeneration. The central point of the pathway is a kinase cascade that in mammals comprises several proteins that generate a network of signals culminating in directing the function of the transcriptional regulators YAP and TAZ. These, when located in the nucleus, control the activity of a series of transcription factors and this binding to these factors is responsible for most of the biological functions driven by YAP/TAZ, including pro-tumorigenic phenotypes that arise from deregulated signaling of the Hippo pathway. YAP performs tissue-specific functions, upstream of YAP, MST1/MST2 activation aids in the recruitment, phosphorylation and activation of LATS1/LATS2. Subsequently, LATS1/LATS2 phosphorylates YAP creating a binding site for 14-3-3 proteins that contribute to maintaining YAP in the cytoplasm. Given the important functions of this pathway, this research aims to evaluate the immunostaining profile of proteins (YAP/LATS2) in oral mucositis (OM) chemically induced by 5-fluoracil (5-FU), in a murine model, under the effect of propolis (P) and royal jelly (GR) compared to the group under the isolated action of photobiomodulation (FBM). Samples of male Wistar rats with oral mucositis chemoinduced by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) will be divided into the following groups: control (C) (no treatment), photobiomodulation therapy (FBM) (intraoral laser 6 J/cm2), gel of propolis (P) and royal jelly (GR). The analysis of cytoplasmic/nuclear immunostaining will be verified in different fields in the oral mucosa epithelium, having as reference the edges of the wound or the region where there was evidence of previous tissue damage, in addition to the area underlying the wound. With this, it is expected to verify if the hippo pathway exerts any influence on the healing/repair effects of chemo-induced oral mucositis treated in different ways.
