SUMMARY:
The home dental care service (AOD) is increasingly growing in Brazil and in the world, especially for those patients who cannot go to the conventional office. In this sense, the objective of this work is to understand the various aspects that permeate Home Dentistry, with regard to knowledge, preference and need for ODA, especially for the elderly population, in addition to identifying the oral health condition of the elderly living in residence and its factors. associates.
The study will be individual, observational and cross-sectional. Online questionnaires were applied through Google forms to the elderly population, non-elderly population and health professionals with questions related to knowledge, preference and need for AOD, in addition to socioeconomic and demographic issues. Assessments were also made of the oral health status of the elderly living and factors associated with it.
For this group, the sample will be using the convenience sampling technique among those who are part of the list of bedridden/domiciled in home care services, basic health units and long-stay institutions.
The sample calculation considered a significance level of 95%, margin of error of 5% and occurrence of outcomes of 50%, totaling 385 individuals. As partial results, it was observed that the general population (n=318), most of whom were between the ages of 31 and 40 years (39.6%), were women (67.9%) and residents of the urban area of Natal ( 94.7%) do not know what home dental care is (66.7%). In the elderly population surveyed (n=89), the majority between 60 and 69 years old (62.9%), women (58.4%), who, when asked about their preference for dental care, 74.2% preferred to be cared for. in the office, while 74.2% did not know about ODA and 77.5% had never heard of this service in their city. There was a significant association between knowledge about Home Dentistry and being a health professional (p<0.001). Health professionals claimed to know 184% more about ODA than those who are not health professionals. Of the elderly living in the household (n=46), 60.9% are women, with a mean age of approximately 84 years and a mean DMFT of 21.7. About a third are LTCF residents. When asked about the need for ODA, more than 80% need this type of care. After the description and completion of the collection, associations between the independent variables and the outcomes of the entire study will also be investigated using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test with 95% confidence. The significant variables in this analysis will proceed to the multiple analysis, which will be based on the Robust Poisson Regression.
