SUMMARY:

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the type of adhesive system and aging on the degree of conversion, wettability, adhesive interface and on the bond strength between glass ceramics for CAD/CAM to resin cement. Glass ceramic CAD/CAM blocks of Lithium silicate (SL - Celtra Duo, Dentsply Sirona), feldspathic (FD - Vita Mark II, VITA Zahnfabrik), and polymer-infiltrated ceramic (PIC - Vita Enamic, VITA Zahnfabrik) will be sectioned to produce 120 blocks (10 x 12 x 2 mm). The blocks will be embedded in acrylic resin and randomly divided into 30 groups (n=15) according to two study factors: "type of adhesive" (C - control without adhesive; C2S - 2-step conventional adhesive; C3S - 3-step conventional adhesive; UNV –universal adhesive) and “aging” (with and without). After conditioning, silanization and application of the adhesive according to the experimental groups, cylinders (Ø = 2 mm and height = 2.0 mm) of resin cement (RelyX Ultimate, 3M ESPE) will be made and half of the samples will be stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24h and half will undergo thermocycling 10,000 cycles and water storage at 37°C for 18 months. Then, the samples will be subjected to the shear bond strength test by wire (SBS - 100 KgF, 1 mm/min), failure analysis and complementary analysis of contact angle, interface analysis by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and degree of conversion. Data from the SBS (MPa) test will be analyzed using ANOVA (2-way), Tukey (5%) and Weibull analysis; and the degree of conversion and contact angle data by ANOVA (1-way) and Tukey (5%). From the execution of this research, it is expected to obtain information on the effect of different types of adhesive on the surface characteristics of the new glass ceramics for CAD/CAM, on the cement/ceramic adhesive interface, on the bond strength, as well as the influence of different types of adhesive in the degree of resin cement conversion. In addition, clarify the stability of the adhesion produced by the surface treatment protocols with the different adhesives tested. This information will be essential to select protocols that present the best results, contributing to the scientific advance in the area of adhesion and improvement of the clinical performance of indirect restorations.
