SUMMARY:

Salivary gland tumors present a great diversity of morphological aspects and biological behaviors, which raises the interest in the research of these lesions. The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a key role in tumor invasion and progression and is a necessary step for metastasis. In this process, epithelial cells lose their adhesion and polarity and acquire mesenchymal properties and increased motility due to a decrease in the expression of epithelial biomarkers and an increase in the expression of mesenchymal biomarkers, with the involvement of several transcription factors. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the immunoexpression of E-cadherin and Twist proteins in Pleomorphic Adenomas (PA), Adenoid Cystic Carcinomas (ACC) and Carcinoma Ex Pleomorphic Adenomas Carcinomas (CXPA). The study will be cross-sectional and the sample will consist of 50 cases of salivary gland neoplasms, 20 cases of PA, 20 cases of ACC and 10 cases of CXPAs, in which the immunoexpression of E-cadherin and Twist proteins in the tumor parenchyma and compared using statistical analysis. Possible associations between the expression pattern of these proteins with the clinicopathological profile of the studied lesions will be investigated. With the results obtained in this study, it is intended to contribute to the understanding of the participation of the various factors associated with MET and a better understanding of the role of these proteins in this process.
