SUMMARY:

With the increasing demands of patients, the treatment of exposed root surfaces has become an important and frequent therapeutic issue. Thus, several aspects of gingival recession have made them clinically significant, requiring professionals to constantly improve surgical techniques that are less invasive and more predictable. AIM: To compare two techniques for root coverage in unitary, unilateral, type 1 gingival recessions; METHODS: This clinical, parallel, randomized, double-blind study will evaluate 58 individuals with unitary, unilateral, type 1 gingival recession (RT1), divided into 2 surgical groups for root coverage: Group 1 – recessions treated by the Raetzke technique; Group 2 - Recessions treated by Bruno's technique. The main parameters evaluated will be plaque index (PI) and gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing index (POB), clinical attachment level (CAL), gingival recession (GR), gingival phenotype (GF), width and thickness of keratinized mucosa (KT and GT), vestibule depth (VD), cervical dentin hypersensitivity (CDH), esthetics (RES and PES), esthetic self-perception, degree of satisfaction and quality of life (QOL), over 2 years of follow-up. Possible statistical tests applied for a normal distribution of data will be the Student's paired t-test for intragroup analysis and Split-Plot Analysis of Variance (SPANOVA) with Student's post-test to compare interactions between treatment groups and assessment time. EXPECTED RESULTS: It is expected to develop treatment protocols for less invasive, more refined and careful root coverage surgeries, based on pre-existing surgical techniques, which guarantee predictability and meet the needs of patients with gingival recessions.
