SUMMARY:

Lipomas are the most common benign mesenchymal neoplasms, representing at least one third of all tumors. He has a predilection for the trunk, shoulders, neck and armpit, being rare in the hands, lower legs and feet. The head and neck region is responsible for 20% of cases of lipomas, being relatively uncommon in the maxillofacial region. The incidence of oral lipomas (LO) varies between 1 and 4%, affecting similarly to the female and male sex, affecting a wide age group, between the second to ninth decades of life. VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is a potent pro-angiogenic factor. Angiogenesis is present from the embryonic period to adulthood, during this period, it occurs in various physiological processes, such as during wound healing, ovulation and pregnancy. It is also involved in several other disease states, such as diabetic retinopathy, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and tumor development. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) belongs to the ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) and plays a role in the physiology of epithelial cells. EGFR plays an essential role, including proliferation and migration, being frequently mutated and / or overexpressed in different types of human cancers, being the target of multiple oncological therapies currently adopted in clinical practice. Therefore, the objective of this work will be to investigate the role of these two proteins in oral lipomas, since there are few studies on this lesion.
