SUMMARY:

Objective: The objective of the present study is to evaluate the clinical survival of ceramic laminates in ultratranslucent zirconia, the satisfaction, and the impacts of this treatment on the patient's quality of life. Materials and methods: The study is a controlled, randomized, double-blind, longitudinal clinical trial. The sample studied will be 100 ceramic laminates divided into two groups according to the type of material, 50 veneers in lithium disilicate for the control group and 50 in ultratranslucent zirconia for the experimental group. The sample population will be the patients treated in the extension project “Metal-Free Fixed Prostheses”, at the Dentistry Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Participation in the research will be voluntary and all patients will sign a informed consent form. To determine the type of ceramic for each restorative treatment, a draw will be carried out for two in two patients, where one will be treated with the zirconia ceramic and the other with the lithium disilicate ceramic. The restorative treatment will be carried out by dentists participating in the extension project “Metal-Free Fixed Prostheses”. Data collection will be performed by a single examiner blind to the type of material in the evaluation periods of 1, 6 months and 1 year in 1 year after cementation. The aesthetic satisfaction of each patient will be assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS). As for the impact on quality of life, a modified OIDP (Oral Impact of Daily Performance) will be used. An analysis of clinical longevity will be made using Ryge's modified criteria conferred with a clinical mirror and explorer. Data on the survival of laminates of different materials will be obtained using the Logrank statistical test and the graphical representation through the Kaplan-Meier curve. For the scores of Ryge's criteria, the degree of satisfaction and impact on the patient's quality of life, a descriptive analysis will be performed. Expected results: The data obtained in this research will generate a publication of high scientific relevance that may assist other clinical studies to evaluate the survival of the treatment of ceramic veneers in ultratranslucent zirconia for a longer period.
