SUMMARY:

Objective: To evaluate the clinical longevity of posterior single monolithic crowns, made of two ceramic materials in CAD / CAM (lithium disilicate and polymer infiltrated ceramic - PIC), as well as the impact of this type of rehabilitation on aesthetic satisfaction, quality of life and periodontal health of rehabilitated patients. Materials and Methods: Patients with a need for one or more unitary crowns in premolars and molars voluntarily participated. All patients signed an informed consent form. The teeth under rehabilitation were allocated using a simple draw between the groups (N = 60 / n = 30): Control Group: (lithium disilicate - E-max CAD / Ivoclar Vivadent) and Experimental group (PIC -Vita Enamic / Vita Zahnfabrik). Photographic, radiographic and clinical information records were collected. The crowns of each group were evaluated for the clinical survival rate (Ryge's criteria). Aesthetic satisfaction was also evaluated using the visual analog scale (VAS), quality of life with Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (OIDP), periodontal parameters and existing faults after rehabilitation with posterior monolithic crowns. The teeth/crowns were also evaluated for the preparation height and thickness of the restoration. Data collection was performed by a single examiner calibrated and blinded to the type of material, at the follow-up times T0 (before the start of treatment), T1 (1 month) and T2 (6 months), T3 (12 months) and T4 (24 months) after rehabilitation. Partial Results: 36 crowns were placed on 20 patients (30 women and 6 men) with an average age of 47.17 years (± 13.91), with 22 (56.4%) crowns from the control group (Emax CAD) and 14 (35.9%) for the experimental group (PIC). All crowns (N = 36) had an average thickness of 1.6mm² (± 0.2). The average height of dental preparations was 3.84mm² ± 0.9. As for clinical longevity, 33 (91.7%) crowns were evaluated after a 1-month period, 30 (83.3%) crowns after 6 months, 21 (58.3%) crowns after 12 months and 1 (2.8%) crown after 24 months. Four failures were recorded, two technical failures due to detachment after 1 and 6 months of follow-up respectively and two biological failures (tooth fracture and periodontal disease) after 12 months of follow-up. Prospects for completion: After qualification, completed patients will be followed up for a 24-month clinical evaluation. Ongoing patients will be finalized and included in the clinical evaluation. Statistical analyses and the final results will be elaborated, analyzed statistically and, from these results, a scientific article will be produced.
