SUMMARY:

Introduction: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dislocation is a pathophysiological condition in which the condyle moves and remains anterior to the articular eminence (GOULART, SILVA, MORAES, 2015). When there are more than three episodes of dislocation in a period of six months, it is characterized as recurrent dislocation (BERNARDINO et al., 2006). The main symptomatology is the difficulty in opening and closing the mouth, with or without the presence of pain. Its management is seen in the literature with a variety of proposed surgical and non-surgical treatments. Objective: To identify which methods are most effective in treating redicivant TMJ dislocations. Methodology: This systematic review follows the PRISMA recommendations. A comprehensive search strategy has been proposed in five different databases. The identified primary articles were initially selected by title. In cases where selection was made impossible by the restriction of information, the abstract or even the full article was read. After selection, the articles underwent a critical analysis and qualitative evaluation that was based on the STROBE, CONSORT and GUIDELINESS checklists, according to the type of article. This way each article selected received a score that once again selected it. The results of this selection and evaluation will be organized in a table. Thus, the data can be extracted facilitating its subsequent analysis and synthesis. Then, new tables will be formed with the selected articles, divided by study types, mapping the variables of each research. Finally, a descriptive analysis will be performed correlating the studies and the information extracted in each of these tables.
