SUMMARY:

Candida ssp. is a fungal commensal colonizing specie presents in humans. It is estimated to be present in 45-65% of children and 30-55% of healthy adults. C. albicans is the most common species in the oral mucosa microenvironment and loss of balance in the host organism can development oral candidiasis. Several therapies have been used to control this infection, however, some patients exhibit resistance to conventional treatment. In this aspect, new therapies are emerging as alternative for the treatment of oral candidosis, as the antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). The present study aims to analyze the efficacy of aPTD in the treatment of oral candidosis in comparison with the conventional treatment with nistatin. This study will consist of a randomized controlled, clinical trial conducted by a clinical and microbiological study in patients diagnosed with oral erythematous candidosis.
