SUMMARY:

Thyroid is an endocrine gland that can be affected by several diseases, ranging from reactive lesions related to autoimmunity to benign and malignant neoplasms. The immune response to several diseases has been researched in the last years, which its influence on the pathogenesis of several diseases has been identified. The release of anti and proinflammatory cytokines by immune cells and some other cells may play an important role in the development and progression of many diseases. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the immunoexpression of IL-17 and IL-23 proteins in colloid goiter (CG), Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), follicular adenoma (FA) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), in order to better understand its role in these thyroid diseases. The sample will be composed by 65 cases, clustered into 4 groups: 15 CG, 10 HT, 10 FA, and 30 PTC, which clinicopathological features and cytokines immunoexpression will be analyzed in each lesion. For immunohistochemical evaluation, both lymphocytes and the other cells that compose these lesions will be analyzed. Lymphocyte will be counted over the full extent of the lesion using the imageJ program. For lesion cells, 10 random fields will be analyzed, and an average will be established as standard to obtain low and high expression. For statistical analysis, a significance level of 5% (p <0.05) will be established.
