Odontogenic cysts and tumors are constituents of a series of epithelial and / or mesenchymal anomalies, constituting an important aspect in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Cysts are commonly found in dental practice and odontogenic tumors to unusual breakouts. The dentigerous cyst (DC), odontogenic keratocyst (OC), ameloblastoma (AMB) and adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) are odontogenic of epithelial origin of biological origin and are the targets of numerous investigations. Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 protein (ALDH1) has detoxification capacity, protecting itself from stem cells against the oxidative, being able to be present in the cell longevity of the cells. There are few studies that allow the immunoblot of ALDH1 in benign odontogenic lesions. Thus the test is estimated and immunoexpression of ALDH1 in DC, OC, AMB and AOT. The sample will consist of 20 DCs, 20 OCs, 20 AOTs and 20 AMBs. Immunoexpression of the ALDH-1 protein will be performed according to an adapted immunoreactivity scheme, where one of the following parameters will be used: 0 (<5%, intelligent); 1 (5% -25%, sporadic expression); 2 (25% to 50%, focal); 3 (> 50%, diffuse expression). The intensity of the immunostaining will be classified as: 0 (negative); 1 (weak); 2 (moderate); and 3 (strong). A score will be determined using the formula: Immunoexpression score = intensity × percentage of cells. The final score will be calculated as 0 to 4, low expression and 6 to 9, high expression. The presence of ALDH-1 immunolabeling was also evaluated in relation to absence (stromal negative = 0) or presence (stromal positive = 1) non-stomach tumor and cystic capsule. See all the tests, the results were submitted to the tests of performance of all the tests, being applied the level of significance of 5% for all the tests. p ≤ 0.05.
