RESUMO:

Introduction: Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is a collective term that represents disorders encompassing the masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and its associated structures. Multifactorial etiology, it presents biopsychosocial aspects as contributing factors for its development. Objective: To evaluate the effect of laser acupuncture compared to the treatments of counseling, occlusal plaque, craniopuncture in pain, anxiety and depression in patients with TMD. Methods: Forty patients diagnosed with TMD through RDC / TMD (Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders) wereallocated to four treatment groups: Counseling (AC =10), Oclusal plate (PL=10), Craniopuncture (CP=10) and Acupuncture Laser (LA=10). Participants responded to the HADS (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), BAI (Beck Anxiety Inventory: Psychological Anxiety Factors) and IDATE (Trait-State Anxiety Index: Psychological Anxiety Factors), BDI (Depression Inventory of Beck: psychological factors of depression) related to anxiety and depression. The Visual Analogue Scale (EVA) was applied at baseline and before and after each session. After 30 days of treatment, the scale was again applied along with RDC / TMD. The data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) 22.0 with the Split Plot ANOVA test, with a confidence level of 95%. Results: There was a reduction over time in the independent pain parameters of the group (p = 0.002). However, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p = 0.570). There was no statistically significant difference in anxiety parameters by HADS (p = 0.018), BAI (p = 0.027) and IDATE (p = 0.043) after 30 days of treatment. Regarding the parameters of depression by HADS (p = 0.106) and BDI (p = 0.115) there was also no statistically significant difference over the time analyzed.
