RESUMO:

Introduction: Acupuncture has been used in the treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), as the alternative and adjuvant treatment to the conventional ones. The craniopuncture, modality performed on the scalp, has been highlighted by its mechanism of action there is no treatment of various conditions. However, there are no studies on its use in TMD. Objective: To evaluate the effects of the disease in patients diagnosed with TMD, on sleep, quality of life and pain; as well as the combination of results with the other therapies: occlusal plaque, counseling and acupuncture laser. Methods: DACs diagnosed with TMD through RDC / TMD (Diagnostic Criteria for Research in Temporomandibular Disorder) were allocated to four treatment groups: Counseling (AC = 10), Occlusal Plaque (PO = 10), Craniopuncture (CP = 10) and Laser Acupuncture (LP = 10). Participants responded to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire regarding sleep disorders, WHOQOL-bref (World Health Organization Quality Of Life) and OHIP-14 (Oral Health Impact Profile) quality of life and Visual Analogue Scale (EVA) in relation to RDC / TMD after a 30 (thirty) day treatment. The data were obtained through SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 with the Split Plot ANOVA test, with a confidence level of 95%. Results: In all groups, the quality of life for OHIP (p = 0.004) and also for painful symptoms (p = 0.570) after 30 days of treatment. However, there was no statistically significant loss between the working groups, either by PSQI (p = 0.303), OHIP (p = 0.119) and pain (p = 0.000). As for the WHOQOL, only its physical domain was significantly selected in quality of life over time (p = 0.010) but not between the groups (p = 0.975), the other domains and the WHOQOL-general group were not found nor after the 30 days. Thus, no therapeutic group was superior in relation to the others in the improvement of the analyzed parameters.
