Historicizing to Orient: History Teaching and the Construction of Critical Temporal Orientation in the Life Project Curriculum Component
History Teaching. Life Project. Historical Consciousness. Temporal Orientation. Historicization.
This research investigates how History teaching can contribute to the development of critical
temporal orientation within the Life Project curriculum component, taking students’ experiences
as a starting point for their historicization. Grounded primarily in the theoretical contributions of
Jörn Rüsen and Agnes Heller, the study analyzes the Rio Grande do Norte High School Curriculum
Framework and conducts empirical research at IERN Natal. It seeks to understand how historical
thinking can broaden the interpretation of students’ experiences by relating individual trajectories
to the historical and social conditions in which they are shaped. As its Educational Product, the
research proposes a Didactic-Pedagogical Guide for Life Project classes, designed to foster the
historicization of students’ experiences and broaden their capacity to orient themselves in relation
to their choices and envisioned futures.
