The manatee (Trichechus manatus) is one of the most endangered aquatic mammals in Brazil, with high rates of newborn strandings in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). Given the threats to the species, environmental education has proven to be an important conservation strategy. The objective of this work was to investigate and propose environmental education initiatives that integrate concepts of animal morphology in an interdisciplinary manner, aiming to promote awareness and consciousness for manatee conservation. The first chapter, which addresses environmental education initiatives, describes the activities carried out during 2023 and 2024 at the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve (RDSEPT) by the Costa Branca Cetacean Project of the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (PCCB-UERN). The scope of these activities was assessed by the number and profile of participants. The analysis employed was qualitative and quantitative, characterizing the profile of the activities, institutions, and participants. Eight categories of environmental education activities were identified, some of which used information about the morphology of the manatee. The categories that stood out for their diversity of activities were "playful and creative activities" and "workshop," while the category "visit to the Manatee Acclimatization Center" stood out for its highest frequency. A diverse audience participated in the activities, reaching and raising awareness among 4,127 people. The most significant participation came from students from basic education institutions, followed by local residents. In the second chapter, concerning the production of the illustrated children's book, language and illustrations appropriate for children were defined. Next, the book's content was selected, structured, and written, with an emphasis on the morphological characteristics of the manatee. The material created falls into the informational book category, using realistic language and illustrations about the species. It is therefore concluded that strategies that combine environmental education actions with educational materials based on the morphology of the manatee are promising in raising awareness and consciousness for the conservation of the species.
