SUMMARY:

Brazilian medical education is structured around curricular guidelines that guide the skills to be acquired by medical students. These regulations include, among others, learning about diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates, such as diabetes mellitus. The fact is that the current scenario of pharmacotherapy in diabetes has made advances, so that it is capable of reducing unfavorable cardiorenal outcomes. In this way, it is essential to use pedagogical teaching strategies capable of training doctors who are confident in their clinical reasoning and capable of an appropriate prescription. The study was a quasi-experimental before and after type, involving students from the UFRN medical course in the year 2024. It was developed in the following stages: 1) Application of a pre-test in the form of OSCE for students in the 3rd period and in the format cognitive assessment for the 12th period. The level of knowledge in anamnesis and diabetes treatment, respectively, was measured. 2) Intervention with a dialogued expository class. 3) Application of a post-test to define the students' learning curve. The study showed a positive impact on the use of active methodologies in the teaching-learning process, in addition to increasing students' skills after the intervention. The main product of this master's degree was the creation of an ebook on diabetes treatment to help medical students make decisions.
