COMPETENCE MATRIX IN CARDIOLOGY FOR MEDICAL RESIDENCE IN CARDIOLOGY OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE.
Medical Residency; Medical Education; Competence-based education, Competence Matrix
Medical education has undergone many adaptations in recent decades due to the need to train professionals that meet population needs. Discussions are moving towards reshaping curricula, which should be guided by professional skills and no longer by educational processes, called Competency-Based Education. In Brazil, there is no consensus among the training programs in Cardiology, highlighting the importance, therefore, of a guide that directs the content to be given, how it should be applied and what the ideal evaluation tools. This project had the purpose of elaborating the competency matrix within the scope of the Medical Residency in Cardiology at Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes (HUOL). The study was prospective, descriptive and interventional, involving all preceptors and teachers of the Cardiovascular Attention Unit / Cardiology, in addition to the residents of Cardiology and was developed in the following stages: 1) Documentary analysis 2) Training of all preceptors and teaching staff in the service for collective construction of the competency matrix for medical residency in cardiology, following the simplified Delphi methodology to obtain consensus among the participants; 3) The results of this first contribution were recorded and tabulated, with subsequent elaboration and electronic sending of the new matrix suggested. In the second round of evaluations, consensus was obtained and, therefore, the final model of the HUOL Cardiology Competence Matrix. It was suggested a matrix for the first year and another for the second year of the Residence, both being divided in the domains: Health Care, Health Management and Health Education. The agreement was more expressive for the questions related to the "Patient Attention" domain, probably because it meant an issue already familiar to preceptors and less robust for topics related to "Health Management" and "Health Education", because possibly dealing with topics that have traditionally been little discussed and have been the subject of debate only in recent decades. The matrix built from this project represents a consensus for the HUOL Cardiology training program, which can serve as a basis for other professions and medical specialties inside and outside the institution
