Ophthalmology; Problem-based learning; Medicine.
Based on an analysis of the history of medicine and ophthalmology education, particularly in Brazil, this study aims to present a proposal for inclusion of contents related to ophthalmological competences on the curriculum of a medical school of the Escola Multicampi de Ciências Médicas do Rio Grande do Norte (EMCM-RN). Based on a longitudinal research of a research-action nature, this study intends to define the subjects of greater relevance in the field of Ophthalmology, based on the recommendation of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), for the training of the general practitioner, distributing the selected contents in the different axes of the EMCM curriculum, systematizing the teaching of these themes , following the methodology of Problem Based Learning (PBL). In this sense, the insertion of the ophthalmologic component within the undergraduate course would serve as an effectively strategy to prepare the professional for its insertion in the labor market, providing better tools for these students to recognize and act effectively against the main existing ophthalmological diseases at the Seridó region.
