TEACHING STRATEGIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SKILLS IN THE UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL COURSE OF THE MULTICAMPI SCHOOL OF MEDICAL SCIENCES OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE
Ophthalmology. Curriculum. Medical education.
A literature review on the teaching of ophthalmological skills in undergraduate medical education was performed in order to construct a manual containing teaching strategies for the insertion of contents related to ophthalmological competences in the curriculum of the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil (EMCM). The work was characterized as an action research. Ophthalmology-related more relevant contents for education of general practitioners were defined and distributed in the different levels of curriculum. Accordingly, the teaching strategies were elaborated with basis in student-centered learning methodologies. The construction of these strategies strengthens the implementation of curriculum and reinforces the general training of future physicians, as it seeks to promote the development of competencies that enable them to become more effective, with abilities to recognize and treat the most prevalent ophthalmologic diseases.
