SUMMARY:

This case study explored the project “The Band as a School” in Lajes/RN, investigating how the 03 de Dezembro Philharmonic Band functions as an educational, community and cultural space. Based on interviews with the Municipal Secretary of Education and Culture, three music monitors and the four principals of the municipal schools, both the institutional perspective and the pedagogical practices in the daily rehearsals and workshops were analyzed. The Secretary highlighted the role of music in post-pandemic reintegration, the inter-institutional nature of the monitoring and the articulação política strategies that ensured budget allocation and political support for the initiative. The principals mention that music is a great ally in raising children's self-esteem and their emotional health, contributing to the integral development of students.The monitors demonstrated a rich plurality of methodologies: sound games and regional rhythms for active learning; co-authorship of repertoire and use of visual codes for inclusion; and affective attention that promotes self-esteem and engagement. This combination of playfulness, co-authorship and relational care forms a collaborative learning environment, aligned with the school's references as a sociocultural space, local musical worlds and creative pedagogies. It is concluded that the band, when integrated into the school curriculum, acts as an agent of cultural hybridization, democratization of music education and strengthening of collective identities, suggesting continuity in longitudinal and comparative research.
