SUMMARY:

The proposed research aims to analyze the stylistic, idiomatic, and interpretative characteristics present in Claudio Santoro's work "Elegia No. 1 for violin and piano". The investigation focuses on understanding how the composer's different compositional phases are reflected in this work, highlighting the evolution of his style over time. A central aspect of the study is the analysis of the poetic elements embedded in the composition, investigating how Santoro uses musical elements to convey emotion and meaning. This includes examining the formal structure of the piece, the use of harmonic and melodic resources characteristic of his later phase, and how these elements contribute to the interpretation of the work by the violinist and pianist. Furthermore, the study delves into the relationship between Santoro's writing and the idiomatic characteristics of the violin, taking into account his own experience as a violinist. This allows for a deeper understanding of how the composer explored the expressive and technical capabilities of the instrument, directly influencing the interpretative choices that musicians can make when performing the piece. A practical contribution of the study is the creation of an edited score aimed at assisting performers in their interpretation of the work. This edition may include interpretative markings, phrasing suggestions, dynamics, and other information that aids in the understanding and poetic execution of the composer's intentions. Thus, the research not only explores technical and stylistic aspects of Elegia n°1 but also seeks to broaden the repertoire and performance of Brazilian music for violin, providing valuable resources for musicians interested in exploring this significant work from the national repertoire.
