SUMMARY:

ABSTRACT 

 

In this Thesis, our aim is to analyze how the construction of discursive representations (DRs) is developed through categories, namely, the semantic categories of reference, predication, modification of referents, modification of predications, spatial location, temporal location, connection, and comparison, as well as semantic roles in the statements of the President of the Republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, at the solemn inauguration session in the National Congress, in Brasília - DF, on January 1, 2019. It is worth noting that the aforementioned speeches were extracted from the Official Portals of the Presidency of the Republic and the Federal Senate, respectively. Thus, the first text concerns the Constitutional commitment of the President of the Republic, designated as the first address to the nation, while the second text is the speech at the Speakers' Corner, known as the first Official speech. Therefore, to proceed with the analyses, we will anchor ourselves in the theories allowed by Textual Linguistics, based on the perspective of Textual Analysis of Discourses - TAD (ADAM, 2011, 2017, 2022). Thus, our objective is to identify, describe, analyze, and interpret the linguistic resources and strategies that the President of the Republic uses in the argumentative process to (re)construct discursive representations (images) of himself to his interlocutors (addressees), as well as of the topics addressed. In this regard, concerning the theoretical-methodological discussion of TAD, we will rely not only on Adam (2011, 2017, 2022) but also on Rodrigues, Passeggi, Silva Neto (2010); Passeggi (2012); Queiroz (2013); and Oliveira (2014). Also, regarding the analysis of semantic roles, we will draw on Castilho (2010); Neves (2016); and Perini (2016). With respect to socio-interactionism, we will anchor ourselves in Marcuschi (2008, 2012); and Koch (2011, 2015). Concerning the conception of genre, we will follow the dialogical perspective of discourse from the Bakhtin Circle (2003, 2006). Thus, regarding methodology, this research will be inserted within a qualitative, descriptive, and interpretative approach (MOITA LOPES, 1996; CHIZZOTTI, 1995; MINAYO, 2007; CHAROUX 2004).
