Masculinity; Political Communication; Jair Bolsonaro; God; Homeland; Family
With the increase of far-right movements in the world, it becomes necessary to analyse the discursive strategies that allow the acceptance of this type of ideology by the population. Given the adaptation that this discourse has suffered over the years, new perspectives must also be adopted in their studies. Thus, in line with de growth of debates about toxic and hegemonic masculinity in our society, the dissertation seeks to understand the importance of the masculine ideal to support the main pillars of these governments. From the above, in this work, a discourse analysis is carried out based on French studies, with Michel Pêcheux (1995) and Eni Orlandi (2003), having as the corpus of the analysis the slogan “God, Homeland and Family” used by Jair Messias Bolsonaro during the 2022 election campaign. In addition, the research presents the context in which these speeches reverberate in society, enhancing aggressive and dangerous behaviours in view of the naturalization provided by these speeches when reproduced by influential leaders, as in the case of then president of Brazil.
