THE NEXT VICTIM AND THE PARTY: AN ANALYSIS OF WHO DONE IT ? AT BRAZILIAN TELENOVELAS
Brazilian Telenovelas; Serial Fiction ; Detective Fiction; Who done it.
Brazilian telenovelas use the narrative resource who done it originated in the detective fiction (REIMÃO, 1984) by introducing mystery and suspense in the narrative to engage the audience when they invest in crimes in the plots. The productions The Next Victim, aired in 1995, and The Party, aired in 2014, have a common thread the question "who killed...?" in the narrative from beginning to end creating a puzzle in the story. The research aims to analyze how the narrative resource inserted in the telenovelas The Next Victim (1995) and The Party (2014) is constructed since they are different from other productions of national teledramaturgy. For this purpose, the methodology used is a hybrid form from the critical analysis of narrative by Motta (2013) and the proposal for television styles by Butler (2010).The theoretical bases for this investigation corresponds to the studies on narratives by Todorov (2006), teledramaturgy by Pallottini (2012), cinema and style by Bordwell (2005), in addition to the study on authorship by Souza (2004) and the use of narrative resource who done it in telenovelas by Mayer (2010). In this way, we identify the different ways of telling stories from the same narrative resource and distinct styles characterizing each work from the attempts and possibilities of the use of who done it …? in Brazilian telenovela.
