SUMMARY:

In 2004, the Brazilian federal government began implementing the Tourism Regionalization Program (PRT), inducing the formation of "tourist regions" throughout the national territory, for the purposes of planning and developing tourist activity, based on governance bodies. regional, under the principle of decentralization. However, when proposing the region as a spatial planning category, it is assumed that municipalities in a tourist region will seek to develop the activity in an integrated way, in which all will capture part of the tourist flows and public and private investments in the sector. The Chapada Diamantina tourist region, in the state of Bahia, is made up of 40 municipalities, however, historically, tourism was concentrated in 5 municipalities in the region. In this sense, it is worth questioning whether the PRT, over 20 years, managed to promote the dispersion of tourism throughout the municipalities that make up the Chapada Diamantina region. Thus, the objective of the research is to analyze how the historical process of socio-spatial concentration of tourism in Chapada Diamantina has been dispersing based on decentralization policies implemented in the 21st century. The specific objectives are: 1) Reveal participation, perception and social interest in the development of tourism in Chapada Diamantina; 2) Analyze the positioning and engagement of public managers in Chapada Diamantina in the instance of regional tourism governance and in regionalization strategies; 3) Map the region's tourist services and equipment and the tourist products offered by agencies and travel operators and their corroboration in tourism promotion across the entire territory; and 4) Identify the itineraries taken by tourists who visit Chapada Diamantina. This is an exploratory and descriptive research, from a critical perspective, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Case study procedures, bibliographic and documentary research, application of semi-structured interviews, focus groups and forms will be used, with local population, businesspeople, tourists and public managers.
