SUMMARY:

Hotel business, a term that encompasses the entire accommodation service, plays a significant role in the tourism sector, as it is an essential part of the guests' travel experience. From the analysis of the accommodation activity, it can be seen that tangible and intangible points influence the quality of the service provided by the enterprises, which directly reflects not only on the sector's assessment; but also in choosing the destination of the trip. Among the intangible aspects, hospitality is a determining factor for excellence and for the positioning of a means of accommodation, as the service provided needs to be, simultaneously, effective, efficient and humanized. Therefore, by achieving these three dimensions, the hotel develops more chances to succeed in a highly competitive environment. In this regard, hospitality can become a transient competitive advantage, mainly because traditional classification models, for example, can be seen as unsustainable in the midst of contemporary technological innovations. In the context of Brazil, hospitality can be relevant, and it is in this direction that this research is headed – with the leading objective of investigating the relationship between the standardization of international chain hotel services and Brazilian hospitality, from the perspective of transient competitive advantage. Thereunto, specific objectives were outlined in order to support the general conduct of the work, namely: verify how the transient competitive advantages are inserted in international chain hotels; contextualize the advances of international chain hotels in Brazil; present the standardization of services in the hotel management of international networks; and identify the role of Brazilian hospitality and service standardization as resources for transient competitive advantage. This is a descriptive-exploratory research with a qualitative approach, which aims to interview people who have worked – or continue to work – in the places analyzed for a period of at least two years and in the position of leaders. Therefore, it is possible to better understand the process over the last few years, given the current scenario of constant changes, including the Covid-19 pandemic phase. After collection, the data will be discussed and investigated from both theoretical and empirical perspectives, in order to contribute to the advancement of the literature on transient competitive advantage in the context of international chain hotels and Brazilian hospitality.
