SUMMARY:

Acute myocardial infarction is a serious condition caused by the sudden obstruction of a
coronary artery, which leads to necrosis of cardiac tissue. This situation requires immediate
intervention and continuous patient care. After hospital discharge, structured and
comprehensive follow-up is essential in order to ensure therapeutic adherence, full patient
recovery, and prevention of recurrences. In this context, health navigation is configured as a
structured process of follow-up along the care pathway of acute myocardial infarction, with the
purpose of promoting access and effectiveness of healthcare. Therefore, the present study aimed
to develop and validate a navigation protocol for patients within the care pathway of acute
myocardial infarction. This is a methodological research study, with a cross-sectional approach,
structured in three stages: 1) scoping review; 2) cross-sectional study to assess barriers and
navigation needs; and 3) development and validation of the protocol’s content and appearance,

with the participation of expert judges selected online through the Lattes Platform. In the cross-
sectional stage, the sample size calculation was based on studies of hospital discharge readiness

among patients after infarction, and determined the need for 83 patients. In the validation phase,
between 6 and 20 judges will be selected, according to the adopted framework. The findings
from the scoping review demonstrated that individuals with acute myocardial infarction require
comprehensive and continuous care, as they face several barriers: difficulties in accessing
healthcare services, psychosocial changes, socioeconomic barriers, lack of information, and
physical limitations. Therefore, long-term care, such as patient navigation, becomes crucial to

prevent recurrences. It is expected that the study results will support the adoption of evidence-
based practices, improve care coordination, and enhance clinical outcomes for these patients.
