SUMMARY:

This research aims to investigate autonomy as a tool for creation and research in solo and collective processes in Theatre. It seeks to understand how the artist-researcher, by directing themselves, constructs an aesthetic and political trajectory capable of articulating scenic practice and thought, thereby establishing autonomy as a creative, formative, and emancipatory practice within the context of the contemporary stage. The study is organized around three main axes. The first proposes a theoretical reflection on the conceptual developments of autonomy in theatrical creation. The second analyzes the creative processes of the productions Seis e Meia and Histórias Fragmentadas de um Eu Fragmentado, developed by me during my undergraduate degree in Theatre Education. The third axis encompasses the analysis of the experiments Nós Versus Eles, by Ana Clara Veras, and Azoane, by Claudilene Medeiros, as well as interviews conducted with the respective artist-researchers, who shared their experiences of creative processes developed during the Covid-19 pandemic in the course Prática Cênica Integrada. Based on the analysis of the experiments and the artists’ accounts, the research seeks to establish a dialogue on the formative possibilities of autonomy in theatrical practice, reflecting on its demands, challenges, risks, and creative potential within self-directed processes. The results indicate autonomy not only as a strategy for organizing creative practice, but also as a process of constructing subjectivities, strengthening artistic authorship, and producing knowledge in the field of Performing Arts.
